Tim Catlin

Tim Catlin is a Melbourne based guitarist and sound artist. His practice centres around drone-based, immersive works primarily using electric and acoustic guitar, with a combination of different techniques, effects and mixing methodologies. These include guitar preparations, customised playing devices and home-built electronic effects, electronics, and modified guitar design; and the results produce finely textured and shifting fields of sound. His performances have been included in the What is Music, Liquid Architecture, and Articulating Space festivals as well as at The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Westspace, and Bus galleries (Melbourne) and The Blue Door (Hong Kong). His sound works, installations, and soundtracks have appeared at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Australian Centre for The Moving Image, The Totally Huge New Music Festival, Immersion Surround Sound Concert Series, and the Cinesonic Conference. Catlin has collaborated with Machinefabriek, Otomo Yoshihide, Phill Niblock, Jason Kahn, Mike Cooper, David Brown, Philip Samartzis, Rod Cooper, Jon Mueller, and many others.

Catlin's second CD Radio Ghosts was published through 23five in 2007. He also performed at the Eleventh Annual Activating the Medium Festival in 2008.
